Losing your SASSA reference number can be quite stressful. The SASSA reference number is a distinctive code given to your SASSA application. Each application receives a unique number, which is provided on the receipt if applying in-person or sent to your phone or email if applying online.
Don’t worry, there are a number of things you can do to retrive it. This is what you need to do

- Dial on your phone *120*3210#. You must dial from the phone line that you used to register your account with
- Wait for a second or two. A prompt will appear on your phone
- You will be asked to input your South African ID number.
- Also enter the cellphone number that you used to make your initial application
- Click on the submit button and wait.
- Your reference number will be sent to you.
Retrieve Your SASSA Reference Number Through Website
SASSA has an official site that you can visit and retrieve your reference number. Here is what you need to do:-
- Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
- You will be asked to give your mobile phone number and your South African ID. Do so and click the submit button
- Your SASSA reference number will be displayed

You can also send a WhatsApp message and retrieve your lost SASSA number. Here is what you need to go
- Send a “SASSA” message through your Whatsapp to 082 046 8553
- Follow the prompts that will be given.
- You will then see your reference number
